Our long-standing partner and client, Axiis, is a manufacturer of different components for motorcycles. They are currently developing their own electric supermoto, the Axiis Liion, and have been prototyping different parts with ProductNow. Not only we have 3D printed their models, but also have advised on design aspects focusing on its manufacturability. Some were:
Control Switch
With this component we first printed a prototype to check the overall feeling and aesthetics when mounted. After some model retouching, the final prototype was printed. The buttons were inserted and the prototype was assembled on a motorcycle, and with everything complying with Axiis preferences the component was CNC machined by themselves.
Battery Cover
We 3D printed the prototype for the Liion battery cover, which enabled the Axiis engineers to determine and test the cables path.
Tail Piece
This prototype was one of the most rewarding prototypes ProductNow has done so far. The 3D printing itself was challenging and, when assembled to the body of the motorcycle, we were finally able to see the whole look of the Liion supermoto. The prototypes were then shipped to an carbon fiber partner, that used them to create the mold for production.
We had to break it into 3 different pieces in the past.
Today we wouldn’t have to, with our new 1000 x 1000 x 1000 mm 3D Printer!
